My Apologies to Jeremy Schoemaker…
Posted by Shannon on Nov 8, 2007
I’ve been a long time subscriber to Jeremy’s blog, but I’m ashamed to say that I too misspelled his name.
I apologize Jeremy for the misspelling of your name. I’m a guy with Shannon as a first name and I know how irritating it can be. People automatically assume that I’m a girl and address everything as Ms. Shannon.
Sorry about that…

The Challenge is over…
Posted by Shannon on Nov 2, 2007
The challenge is over, the totals are in, and the official winners are:
First Place: Shoemoney - 18,003 subscribers
Second Place: John Chow - 13,276 subscribers
Third Place: Shannon Cole - 11 subscribers
It’s official, I didn’t win…. in subscribers anyway. I did learn a lot from this experience though.
I’m not to sure about Shoemoney’s win though… Kinda fishy to have gained more subscribers in the last day than he received for the entire month. But it’s possible.
Thank you for all who did support me and subscribed! It was appreciated.

Day 4 - also a little late. lol
Posted by Shannon on Oct 31, 2007
Hey folks…
Well day 4 is now over as well… Only today left to reach 13,000 subscribers. Currently I have a total of 9 subscribers.
Unless some miracle happens today, it doesn’t look like I’m going to win. :) Especially considering today is Halloween! That’s cool. It was fun and I actually learned a few things.
Thanks for those who supported me!

p.s. have to keep this short… my son just said he leaked his diaper! ![]()
Day 3 Update - a little late.
Posted by Shannon on Oct 30, 2007
Sorry guys.. I didn’t get a chance to write last night. It was a busy day yesterday (with the kids).
So… Day 3 Update… Nothing really to report for Day three unfortunately.. My Challenge hasn’t caught on virally yet and I actually have one less subscriber than the day before!
I’m assuming that the person didn’t actually unsubscribe, but instead it’s just how feedburner is reporting it (probably didn’t check his rss reader for yesterday).
I’m looking forward to seeing the final numbers at the end of the challenge. I would like to see a huge frenzy of subscribers by the end of the last day.
I am getting some descent traffic however, what do I need to do to get them to subscribe? Stick a BIG BLUE RSS IMAGE in the middle of the screen? lol
That’s it for Day 3 folks… Lets hope Day 4’s update is more encouraging!

Thanks Andy…

It’s always nice to have words of encouragement… I shot a quick email to Andy over at Marketing Pilgrim to let him know about my little crazy challenge. Here’s his response:
Wow, you’re certainly not afraid of a challenge. I’ve not paid much attention to their challenge, but having faced one with Jeremy before–and lost–I admire your courage.
Andy
Thanks Andy… I remember your challenge with Jeremy on MyBlogLog. It was interesting… Sorry you had to lose… That Shoe is a fighter… I’m just gonna have to kick his internet ass. lol
Just kiddin’ Shoe… I’ve seen the pictures… I know you’ve been working out… I’ll pass kicking your ass for when I get back to the gym. ha ha.

Keep on chugging along…

I know I’m a little insane to attempt this challenge… Getting 13,000 people subscribed to my RSS feed in 5 days is probably a foolish attempt… But is that really the point of this site?
Of course not… The point of this site is to have fun and see what is truly possible when an idea becomes viral and spreads from one person to another.
Imagine if everyone who reads this message subscribed and encouraged just a couple other people to do the same… You’d be surprised on fast this will spread… Now imagine if this type of viral marketing was put to good use to help people in need. It would be just amazing.
So come on guys… I know you’re here… I see you!! (kiddin’ - Google Analytics) … Take a couple minutes - subscribe to my rss feed, and encourage just two people to do the same. Lets make this spread like wild fire and blow John and Shoe out of the water!

Day 2 Update…

John Chow Losing Steam
Mmm… It looks like John is losing a few of his subscribers in the last couple days. I bet it was me… I’m causing a huge ripple in their competition with my 8 subscribers!

I told you John and Shoe… I’m coming to beat you…

I sent a quick note to Heather over at Home with Heather to let her know about my personal challenge. She’s onboard and made an excellent post about it.
Check it out here: Help the Underdog BEAT John and Shoe
Thanks Heather!

24 hours later…
Posted by Shannon on Oct 27, 2007
It’s been about 24 hours since I decided I wanted to beat John and Shoe… It appears that most people couldn’t care less! lol
I had a couple people wish me luck and a couple wish me other things ( I won’t get into the details)
In an attempt to get people to sign up for my RSS feed, I posted that I would stumble any site if they subscribe. I received a couple this way, but not a lot… Which surprised me because I can go now and request someone to stumble exchange and within minutes I’m sure to have people taking part…. I wonder why subscribing to an RSS feed for a few days gets no response?
I thought I had a nice little hidden gem up my sleeve that would give me a huge boast in rss subscribers, but so far it hasn’t caught on. Maybe within the next few days.
That’s it for tonight…

p.s. What’s up with the digital point’s forums? Getting a database error.

After competition.. I won’t be hurt…
Posted by Shannon on Oct 27, 2007
Guys… feel free to unsubscribe to the rss feed after the competition is over… This is not a trick to make money (as someone kindly pointed out in an email to me).
